Under 15's v Horden (Mon 17th May)
The Fell Under 15's lost out in an exciting match in
their recent home game against Horden.
Batting first. the Fell made 99 for the loss of four
wickets. Top scorer was David Daley with 40 and
Callum French on 35. The wicket was difficult and
the outfield slow and this represented a better
score than was reflected on the scoreboard.
The Fell made a good start to the second half when
Hordens top player Chris Scott was stumped by Sam
Rosebey of the bowling of Liam Richardson, but their
other batters did well against the bad balls bowled
by the Fell and scored quite freely. Top scorer for
Horden was Billyard with a very fine 46 runs.
After 14 overs Horden had scored 72 runs and looked
to be winning comfortably. This all changed though
with the introduction of Ajit Prasad and Naveed
Chaudray into the attack. The removal of the pace
made it harder for the batters to score and both
Ajit and Naveed bowled a consistantly good length.
With two overs to go Horden still needed just seven
runs with wickets in hand - but pressure told and
over 19 went for 4 runs runs. One over to go, 3 runs
needed for the win and Naveed bowling. Wicket, one,
one wicket, one... scores tied with two balls to
go...dot ball...last ball caught and bowled chance
ball goes down batters scramble a single to win the
game.
A good effort to make the game as close, but the
Fell lose their unbeaten start to the season. Well
played to Naveed and Ajit for giving the team a
chance when all looked lost.
Under 15's v Eppleton
Strength in depth, or the lack of it cost Eppleton
dearly in their recent match against the Fell Under
15's. Batting first, the Fell struggled against some
fine quick bowling by Jonathan Birt. On a slow pitch,
the Fell batters showed a lack of application resulting
in eight of them being clean bowled. Only 71 runs were
scored with Callum French with 17 and 'extras' at 24
making up the bulk of the runs.
With captain David Daley injured and unable to bowl, it
was thought the Fell might find such a small total hard
to defend, but Matty Ridley and Michael Elliott bowled
an opening 5 overs between them for only 2 runs with
some accurate bowling. They were supported by some fine
Fell fielding. Jonathan Birt, again, then looked like he
might win the match single-handed as he took the attack
to the Fell before falling caught behind off Naveed
Chaudray. Eppleton's lack of depth was then exposed as
the Fell got among the wickets and also restricted the
Eppleton scoring. As they brought themselves back into
the match, usual wicket-keeper Sam Roseby took the ball
to bowl a fine spell of straight bowling and cleaned up
with 4 wickets for 6 runs as the Eppleton innings ended
up on 63 for 7 wickets, giving the Fell boys there
second win of the season.
This was a good performance winning a game that could
easily have been lost. There were good contributions
from all the players in the field and when bowling, but
the batting needs to become more effective to secure
wins against the top teams in this league.
Fell Under 15’s Start Season With A Win
The Fell Under 15’s started the season
off win a win against Burnmoor CC. Winning the toss Fell
captain David Daley chose to bowl first.
The pitch was slow and the outfield
long and Burnmoor struggled to make any real dent into the
Fell bowling. Opener Matthew Wright made 21 before being
bowled by Liam Richardson, but Burnmoor managed only 55 runs
for 4 wickets at the close.
Liam Richardson was the pick of the
Fell bowling with 2 wickets for 6 runs in his 3 overs.
In reply the Fell started slowly, but
Sam Roseby soon made short of the slow outfield by crashing
the ball the boundaries for 4. He scored 30 before hitting
one too many and being caught out.
Chris Dodds batted sensibly for 13 not
out as the Fell knocked the runs off for the loss of 2
wickets in 14 overs.
